Modern Pershore grew from the settlement that surrounded the old Benedictine Abbey. The monks from the abbey built the l4th century bridge across the River Avon towards Evesham, the only monastic bridge now serving on the Avon its central span, now replaced, was blown up during the Civil War.
The town has a lovely Georgian flavour with some extremely elegant facades along the High Street and Bridge Street and arched coach entrances are still much in evidence. On the eastern side of these two streets, many of the inns and hotels open onto gardens by the river.
In the High Street, Barclays Bank is an 18th century building with elaborate doorway and fanlight.
The Royal Three Tuns Arcade has Regency ironwork balconies.
Angel Inn & Posting House, Broad St. A fine bow-windowed house with east facing wing, overlooking High St.
Perrott House, Bridge St. Built in 1760, with 'Adam' style ceilings.
