The village on the Scaur Water stands on an ancient Pilgrim’s track and on which James IV travelled from Edinburgh to Whithorn in 1507.
On Tynron Doon are the remains of a prehistoric hill-fort where supposedly Robert Bruce sheltered in 1306.
