This busy market town is diverse in industry with farming and steel.
The church dates from the 13th century and a former Cloth Hall and a Shambles from 1768.
The barn at Gunthwaite Hall is a spectacular half-timbered building which has stood for more than 500 years. It is an impressive building and it is said that according to tradition a young carpenter spent his entire 7 year apprenticeship just making the pegs which has held it together.
