A fine medieval castle with an impressive keep dating from the 13th & 14th century rebuilt on Norman foundations.
Situated at the head of a creek of Milford Haven and is one of the largest and most impressive castle ruins in the country covering an area of four acres and is surrounded on three sides by the tidal waters of the Pembroke River.
Originally founded in 1090 by Arnulf de Montgomery, son of Roger, Earl of Shrewsbury.
The castle was rebuilt by William Marshal who died in 1219.
The outer ward is enclosed by a wall with seven bastion-towers and entered through the magnificent gatehouse.
