Peakirk - Church of St Pega

Peakirk - Church of St Pega

Chestnut Close, Peakirk , England

URPoint Details

St Pega's Church is the only one dedicated to her. The west wall is part of a Norman building and the bellcot is also Norman.

In the south doorway is an elaborate Norman tympanum and most of the interior is also Norman.

The 14th century lectern with its wooden stem and slender attached shafts is rare. The octagonal font is medieval. There are many wall paintings, mostly of the 14th century, including Christ washing St Peter's feet, the last Supper, the crucifixion and the Resurrection and also one of St Christopher of a later date.

The north aisle has a rather unpleasant painting of the Three Quick and the Tree Dead and another two women whispering to each other with a devil pressing their heads together.
