One of the prettiest riverside villages on a peninsular of the River Ouse, where the river provided rushes for the development of rush mat making.
The mats once provided covering for the floors of the Houses of Commons.
The medieval church of St Peter, on the hill overlooking the village, has some wonderful panelling and Jacobean woodwork.
