Letters written by John Paston and his family cover a period from 1422 to 1509 and are famous for depicting life in those days.
Caister Castle belonged at one stage to Sir John Paston who is buried in Bacton.
Legend has it that it took one man who was employed for three days flaying beasts to be consumed, also many geese, capons and chickens were used together with 1300 eggs, 20 gallons of milk and eight gallons of cream. Provision was made of 13 barrels of beer, 27 of ale and many gallons of red wine. A barber was occupied for five days smartening the monks for the ceremony.
