A window bricked up in Mulberry House to avoid window tax, tempted Rex Whistler in the 1940s to paint a realistic figure of an 18th century parish priest, with wig, gown and candle, writing his sermon. Rex Whistler was killed in action in 1944 and in his memory the window was preserved by framing and glazing it.
