URPoint Details
A village lying between the Crouch and the Roach estuaries, and while only a few miles from Southend, the village still has a feeling of being remote. The tidal waters which surround it on the north, east and south have protected it from development.
The tide has influenced the development of the village from earliest times, and ‘Redhills' indicate salt manufacture back to Roman times.
A Saxon, Paccel, may have started the village, and there was a church here before 1066.
