Oscar Wilde (Oscar Fingall O’Flahertie Wills Wilde), born in Dublin in 1854. He attended Oxford from 1874 to 1878
He wrote many short stories and plays, also wrote and edited for periodicals.
Some of his major works included ‘Lady Windermere’s Fan’ in 1892, ‘A Woman of No Importance’ in 1893, ‘An Ideal Husband’ in 1895 and his most famous ‘The Importance of Being Ernest’ in 1895.
He also wrote two historical tragedies ‘The Duchess of Padua’ in 1892 and ‘Salome’ in 1893. In 1891, Wilde had become intimate with Lord Alfred Douglas, and ended with him being imprisoned until 1897.
He lived in France, plagued by ill health and bankruptcy until his death in 1900.
