Disabled parking 85m from entrance, via smooth tarmac sloping up to entrance disabled visitors may be set down by the gate. Access to castle via 90m impacted gravel and grass six steps at entrance but easier to rear of castle ground floor and one exhibition room accessible, the 3 steps down to further exhibition room a pusher is required. Grounds are mostly accessible with pusher, on loose and impacted gravel paths and smooth grass, which can be soft in winter 4 steps up to Pavilion benches provided in summer and excellent views of castle from the lawns a few stone carvings to touch. Beware covered well in centre of castle there are low level wall areas-remains of standing walls on one side of the main entrance corridor and off the gate Keeper's Chamber into the Garderobe. Toilets, only accessible to wheelchair users with assistance, if gate is unlocked by custodian- access is on lower road area of Gothic Pavilion.
The unusual hexagonal ruins of this 14th century castle are on the edge of a beautiful lake, surrounded by landscaped grounds, which include an elaborate rockwork grotto.
