URPoint Details
A small village situated in the wooded valley of the South Water of the Ugie was an important ecclesiastical centre when St Dunstan established a monastery beside the river. By the end of the 12th century the monastery fell into disrepair.
In 1218 William Comyn found a Cistercian abbey on the opposite banks of the river, the ruins that remain are the cloister, kitchen, church, refectory, abbot’s house and infirmary.
