URPoint Details
Lionel Robinson, a wealthy Australian businessman bought Old Buckenham Hall and lived there from 1906 till his death in 1922.
His passion for cricket was so great that he lovingly created the pitch in the village of Old Buckenham from the turf he had sent from Australia.
One of his greatest achievements was to arrange a cricket match between the 1921 Australian touring team and an English representative X1 at Old Buckenham on his newly created cricket pitch.
Although rain stopped play and the match ended in a draw (Hobbs 85 retired hurt), it was certainly a day for all to remember.
