A village sitting beneath the Marlborough Downs at the head of the Vale of Pewsey a fertile area.
The 18th century mansion house was enlarged in the 1920s by Clough Williams-Ellis of Portmeirion fame also designed other houses in the village.
The tiny chancel remaining from the church is now a mortuary chapel and was erected in 1533 by monks from Sherborne in Dorset. Over the north and east windows are interesting Latin inscriptions.
