URPoint Details
A pretty village on the eastern fringe of the Mendips in a fairytale setting with greystone, red-tiled houses grouped around the medieval castle.
The castle dates from 1373 and is one of the finest in the county, although damaged during the Civil War it is still an impressive sight and has a 10ft deep moat.
The 13th century Church of All Saints restored in 1874 still retains a 30lb cannon ball that demolished the walls of the castle.
