On many summer weekends, the real Sheriff of Nottingham can still be found greeting visitors in his room in the castle gatehouse.
High on Castle Rock, the castle commands magnificent views over the city and the beautiful countryside beyond. In Robin Hood's day it was home to his arch enemy, the Sheriff of Nottingham, and the scene of many a clash between these famous adversaries.
Today the castle, a magnificent former Ducal mansion, houses the first municipal museum and art gallery for fine arts outside London. Visit the interactive 'Story of Nottingham' exhibition, picture gallery, decorative art and regimental museum.
