Elizabeth (Betsy) Fry born 21 May 1780 nee Gurney in Gurney Court, off Magdalen Street, Norwich to a Quaker family and married Joseph and had 11 children.
She was a prominent 19th century Quaker prison reformer, and a major driving force behind new legislation to make the treatment of prisoners more humane.
She died 12 October 1845 (aged 65), at Ramsgate in Kent.
Eliabeth Fry is pictured on the Bank of England £5 note.
