A long straggling village set in orchard country where it is reputed that Queen Elizabeth I dined under the oak tree on the green in 1573.
Northiam looks down the Rother valley where a number of little stream flow down the northern slopes to join the river.
Part of the parish church of St Mary dates from the 12th century and there is also some 14th and 15th century work.
