URPoint Details
The north of the county has a foundation of chalk, which lies near the surface, and produces lime for mortar and flint used widely throughout East Anglia.
The whole flint when used gives a ‘pebbly’ effect but when cut ‘knapped’, gives a flat finish, and exposes a beautiful dark honey colour. People that cut the flint are called ‘Flint Knappers’.
