URPoint Details
An ancient town referred to in the Domesday Book as Newport, Pagnell being the name of the owners of the manor.
The town is situated on two rivers the Ouse and the Lovat, the latter divides the town.
Built of iron in 1810, Tickford Bridge crosses the Lovat and the stone North Bridge crosses the Ouse.
There are some lovely Georgian houses and the late Victorian Queen Anne’s Hospital is built on the site of an earlier one built for the poor by Queen Anne of Denmark, wife of James I.
