Newark Castle, (HES) - Port Glasgow

Car park and toilets. Disabled parking close to castle. Ground floor is wheelchair accessible. The upper floors are not suitable for wheelchair visitors. More ambulant visitors may reach the first floor.

Built by George Maxwell in the 15th century this elegant and still virtually intact turreted mansion house has a tower, courtyard and hall.
Enlarged by his descendent Patrick Maxwell in the 16th century.

Sir Patrick was infamous for murdering two of his neighbours and beating his wife of 44 years who bore him 16 children.
