URPoint Details
A pretty miniature seaside resort situated on a beautifully curved bay with a background of wooded hills, has splendid sands and a tiny harbour with a stone pier.
In 1833 a newly developed ship-building company was formed and by 1860 employed over 600 shipwrights, but gradually rail and road took away the coastal trade.
Many small fishing boats still land mackerel, herring and shellfish here.
Through the summer months the neat, brightly painted Georgian and Victorian houses up on the terraced hillside look down on the many yachts harboured here.
