An attractive little royal burgh sitting on the banks of the River Ken with Loch Ken and the Rhinns of Kell rising 2,668ft make ideal climbing country.
On the west side of the loch lies the 16th and 17th century Kenmure Castle, the ancient seat of the Lochinvar chiefs.
Kells churchyard with its Covenanters grave dated 1685 and a curious carved Adam and Eve stone lie just to the north of town.
