The village may be small and charming and would have been an idyllic place for Samuel Taylor Coleridge to pen some of his famous poems ‘The Ancient Mariner’ and ‘Kubla Khan’.
The 15th century Stowey Court with its 18th century gazebo adjoins the parish church.
Beside the stream is the mound of a ruined castle.
