URPoint Details
A town situated at the mouth of the River Neath boasting unspoilt surroundings, the ruins of an old castle, abbey and church dating from the 12th century make this a town to visit, especially the old Roman station of Nidum.
The Norman castle built in 1130 by Richard de Granville, one of FitzHamon’s ‘twelve knights’ was sacked by Llewelyn ap Iorwerth in 1231 and only the gateway remains.
