The church of St Martin, Orwell Park House and Broke Hall all date from 1200.
Colonel George Tomline, an engineer lived at Orwell Park House and owned most of the area between the Orwell and the Deben, in 1850 he had the village moved to its present site. He also built a school at Seven Hills and the railway line from Ipswich to Felixstowe.
