URPoint Details
The Museum building is owned and run by the Vintage Carriages Trust, and houses a unique collection of elderly railway carriages, including a fully restored prize-winning 1876 Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway coach (in Great Central Railway livery). Audio presentations (Travellers' Tales) and access to coach interiors brings the collection to life and allow close examination of the restoration work, completed and in progress. Meet the Guard in his van! Hear the early morning lighting-up instruction on the footplate of 'Lord Mayor', a diminutive 100-year-old Leeds built industrial locomotive.
The collection tells the story of ordinary passenger travel in the days of steam - in the Victorian era, when the class system ruled.
