Evidence that both Romans and Saxons were here have been found in this lovely fishing village now a holiday resort with safe swimming and lovely beaches.
Horatio Nelson was a frequent visitor to the village and stayed at the Royal Hotel.
In the High Street is Cowper House, where the poet William Cowper lived in the late 1790's.
