The house was built in 1600 for Henry Pitt, a merchant. Beneath its Victorian red-casing, Moseley is a pleasant timber-framed Elizabethan house not perhaps of any great architectural merit, but famous as one of the places in which Charles II sheltered while on the run after the Battle of Worcester in 1651.
It is a rambling, gabled house with 2 groups of tall Elizabethan chimneys, cased in red brick the original timber-framing and wattle-and-daub can still be seen in the attics.
Early 17th century panelling barrel-vaulted chapel ceiling, partly decorated with blue sky and stars secret place where Charles II hid when Moseley was searched by Parliamentarian soldiers.
Good collection of 17th century oak furniture, 4-poster bed (with contemporary hangings) in which Charles II slept Delft pottery and kitchen equipment.
