A delightful angling resort and village almost encircled by the windings of the Kale Water which flows south from the Cheviot hills and then turns west and joins the Teviot.
To the south is the lonely valley once a refuge for the Covenanters
To the north across the river is Linton Church a restored ancient building with a Norman font, a bell in the belfry dates from 1697 and a notable carved Somerville stone set above the porch.
To the southwest on the Oxnam road are the remains of Cessford Castle an L-plan castle, built of reddish stone with 14ft thick walls. The castle surrendered to the English in 1523.
