URPoint Details
The town stands below Henry III’s ruined castle, with lovely Georgian buildings and flower gardens.
The name is derived from that of Roger of Montgomery, Earl of Shrewsbury, who built the first castle in the 11th century.
The views from the ridge extend to the Severn valley and the ‘blue remembered hills’ of Wales.
The 14th century church has a majestic rood screen, old stalls with misericords and a late Norman font.
On the north side of the graveyard is Robbers Grave where grass refuses to grow.
