There has been a settlement here since the Stone Age and some relics were found at Slough Farm.
The Romans were as well and documented history can be traced back over a thousand years, to Aelfgar, Ealdorman of Essex who was lord of the manor and who died about AD953.
A most attractive village with lots of the cream coloured painted thatch roof cottages. In the middle of the green stands the village pump.
