Monk Myre - Blairgowrie

Blairgowrie PH13 9HS, Scotland

URPoint Details

A pair of small, shallow lochans in Perth & Kinross 2 miles (4 km) southeast of Blairgowrie.

The lochan is surrounded by areas of wet grassland, fen, swamp and improved pasture.

Comprising a partially silted-up kettle-hole formed by the melting of isolated blocks of ice left by a retreating glacier which once descended from the Grampian Mountains through Glen Shee and Strathardle, these lochans form part of the Hare Myre SSSI and a Geological Conservation Review Site.

Marl was extracted from the bed of the loch in the 19th century.
