Occupied by the once powerful Lovell family in a turbulent period of England's history, the impressive ruins of a 15th century manor house are in a picturesque setting by the cool banks of the River Windrush.
A story is told that in 1708 when the foundations for a new chimney were being laid at the Hall the workmen discovered a locked underground vault. Inside was a skeleton which crumpled away to dust following the in-rush of air. Possibly this explains the disappearance of the ninth and last Lord Lovell who, unfortunately for him, chose the losing York side at the Battle of Stoke, near Newark, in 1487 and was believed to have fled from the battle scene.
The nearby medieval dovecote complete with nesting boxes has been restored.
