Designated a New Town in 1967, Milton Keynes offers a wide range of housing, excellent shopping facilities and three centres for leisure and sporting activities.
Although Milton Keynes is rapidly becoming known for its Woughton Park wine produced from the Vineyard at Woughton on the Green Bucks, it boasting over 4000 acres of parkland and woodland. Over 18 million trees and bushes have been planted. It is little wonder it is sometimes known as 'the city in the country'.
Natural parks and man-made lakes provide important wildlife habitat and areas for recreation, as does the Grand Union Canal which meanders through the city. The Japanese Peace Pagoda is one of the most unusual attractions in the town. Constructed by Japanese Buddhist monks, it was the first to be built in Europe.
