URPoint Details

In the 1770s, Joseph Damer, Earl of Dorchester was displeased with the view from his rebuilt medieval abbey, so had it moved to its present site about a mile away he erected a ‘model village’.

Most of the lovely cottages are thatched and cob and washed in white or pale yellow, there are some beautiful flower gardens and is a very appealing village in all seasons.

The main street cuts through the middle of the green, and in the centre stand some 17th century brick-and-flint almshouses.

The 18th century Church of St James is a Grade II Listed building designed in the Georgian Gothic style.
