Erected in 1320, and owned by the Clan Armstrong Trust, the cross is a memorial to Alexander Armstrong who was murdered in Hermitage Castle some 6.5km away.
It faces the ruin of Mangerton Castle a seat of the Armstrong chiefs for over 300 years.
