A splendid example of a late 16th century Scottish castle in the baronial style situated just north of the Hill of Fare rising to 1,545ft just off the Aberdeen to Tarland road is notable for its turrets.
The castle was supposedly built by Sir William Wallace and formerly known as Ballogie.
