Open end March to end-October, 11am-5pm. April to September, 11am-4pm. March, October & November Sundays only 11am-4pm. Licensed restaurant and tearooms, picnic area and free parking for ticket holders. A season ticket to other Sussex Past properties and half-price admission to selected English Heritage sites in Sussex and Hampshire is available. Dogs on leads allowed in car park only. Various events take place each year.
Gardens, ground floor of the house, barn and courtyard area are all accessible. Wheelchair ramps provided where necessary; Assistance dogs are welcome; disabled toilet on site.
Set on a tranquil moated island surrounded by spacious gardens was founded in 1229 for Augustinian canons, the Priory is approached through a 14th century Gatehouse. Period furniture, musical instruments, tapestries, stained glass and ironwork grace the interior. There is also a quiet room and art exhibition.
In the lovely grounds are a Tudor barn, wagons, blacksmiths and wheelwright’s museum, rope museum, physic garden and a working watermill, grinding locally-grown wheat into wholemeal flour.
