A village built with some fine buildings including the Beaton public hall built in 1908, and the fine parish Gothic church with gabled clock tower which stands on it own green.
Nearby is the ruined old castle of Gight, the home of Lady Catherine Gordon, mother of Lord Byron.
Further down the river is the fine Adam mansion of Haddo House, the seat of the marquis of Aberdeen standing in beautiful grounds.
