A town of attractive stone houses lying near the borders of Somerset and Dorset, and has a very interesting old coaching inns.
The Ship Inn has a beautiful wrought iron n 18th century sign by Kingston Avery who also made the church clock.
The George Hotel is where Charles II heavily disguised once stayed after the battle of Worcester.
Chantry House is 15th century was once a school kept by the Dorset poet William Barnes.
The church is mainly Perpendicular in style and has two 14th century chantry chapels. The 15th century screens are particularly fine as are the 14th and 15th century brasses, 15th century glass and 17th century pews.
