URPoint Details
Mayland is a widely spread community of which the larger part by far lies along the southern shore of the River Blackwater.
This area is known as Maylandsea, as distinct from Mayland proper which consists of scattered houses spread over Mayland Hill to the south.
Mayland was originally a manor dating from the 12th century, when it formed part of the endowment of St Osyth's priory. In the times of Henry VIII it was bestowed on Cardinal Wolsey, until his fall from grace.
