A village at the foot of Mynydd Margam rising to 800ft and is a most interesting little place with a mansion, ruined Cistercian abbey and a great park.
There are traces of an old Roman road and several good monoliths in the area.
The Abbey dates from the 12th century, with only the church remaining of which the choir and transepts are ruins, but the nave is lovely with a west front pierced by fine a Norman doorway. The altar tombs are fine and there are a few good Celtic crosses.
The Chapter House dates from the Early English style and is an unusual twelve sided shape.
