The western end of the songwriter’s ‘Road to the Isles’ is a large herring port.
Loch nan Uamh, 8 miles south is where Bonnie Prince Charlie arrived on the Scottish mainland on July 25, 1745 and left, never to return on September 19, 1746.
Loch Morar, 4 miles southeast is more than 1000ft deep, the deepeset inland water in Britain. It is said to harbour a monster which appears whenever a death is imminent in the Clan MacDonald.
