Maldon - Church of St Mary's

To the west of the park can be seen the distinctive white spire of St Mary's 12th century church. For hundreds of years a lighted beacon was hung from the tower as a navigational aid and landmark. Even without this, the tower can be recognised from a considerable distance away, both over land and sea. Inside the church, the millennium window may be seen. Installed in 1991, it is of modern design by Mark Angus, depicting the death of Byrthnoth at the Battle of Maldon.
