Major-GeneralCharles George Gordon, CB born 28 January 1833 Woolwich also known as Chinese Gordon, Gordon Pasha, and Gordon of Khartoum, was a British army officer and administrator.

He served in the Crimean War, Siege of Sevastopol, Battle of Kinburn, Second Opium War, Taiping Rebellion, Battle of Cix, Battle of Changzhou, Mahdist War and the Siege of Khartoum.

He was held in such regard that the following honour were bestowed upon him: Companion of the Order of the Bath, Crimea Medal’ Second China War Medal, Turkish Crimea Medal and the Legion of Honour.  He suppressed the Sudanese slave trade in 1878. 

He was murdered at Khartoum on 6 January 1885 aged 51.
