The village is pretty with granite cottages and houses and the pub the King William IV is perched on a hill.
The news of Nelson’s victory at Trafalgar and of his death was brought to England by a Penzance fishing boat. After a thanksgiving service and memorial service for him was held and a banner was made to mark the occasion. The banner is protected in a glass case in the church.
There are many interesting pre-historic sites in this part of the county including the upright granite Menan-tol Stone once believed to have healing powers.
Lanyon Quoit a giant 18ft long stone supported on three upright stones was originally a covered burial chamber of the later Stone Age.
