Lythe Hill Hotel - Haslemere

It appears that the original part of the black and white house of Lythe Hill was built around 1475. This is the right hand wing seen from the outside.
The tiled, gabled roof is typical of the period with an overhanging upper storey. The left wing was added in about 1580, presenting a striking contrast to the earlier part with its square and circle patterned timbering. The estate was purchased by the Quennell family in the early 1480's.
A well known family in the area, the Quennells owned the nearby iron works. Robert Quennel became a notable Iron Master in the Chiddingfold area. His son, Peter, supplied guns and shot to Charles I during the Civil War, until forced to stop doing so by Parliamentarians.
Two superb restaurants offer a delightful choice of cuisine which are complimented by fine wines. The wine list is exceptional by any measure, offering over 200 wines from more than a dozen countries.
In the oak panelled dining room is the 14th century house, with its garden room overlooking lake and a parkland, is the Auberge de France.
