URPoint Details
A picturesque harbour and promenade are flanked by thatched houses and a narrow main street.
From the harbour is a steep road rising more than 100ft to Countisbury, and about a quarter mile below is the Blue Ball Inn.
In 1899 the seas were so rough that the lifeboat could not go to the aid of the stricken Forrest Hall vessel. The villagers dragged the lifeboat all eight tons of it, across 12 miles and launched it off Porlock, saving all crew.
