URPoint Details
The village with its Victorian Gothic church sits in the centre of the New Forest where there are impressive beeches in Mark Ash Wood, and the Knightwwod Oak is about 600 years old and is more that 21ft round.
Now a busy tourist centre for the New Forest has some fine buildings and the Victorian Gothic church dominates the town.
Alice Liddell, the original Alice in Wonderland is buried here.
Queen’s House is an attractive 17th century house once the home of the Lord Warden of the forest, and the Vererers who administer the forest still meet here. Their courtroom is hung with antlers. In the old dock, shaped like an axe, and an old stirrup.
